A Central Florida Premiere

Thursdays – Saturdays at 7:30 pm, Saturdays and Sundays at 2:00 pm

What if one thought cost you everything? Following a wildly successful Broadway run, the nerve-jangling stage adaptation of George Orwell’s dystopian masterpiece opens at the Garden Theatre. 1984 presents a harrowing future in which a totalitarian government uses propaganda, brainwashing, constant surveillance, and torture to control its subjects. One of the most widely referenced and best-known fiction titles of all time, 1984 makes the dark implications of out-of-control state power feel urgent and real.

Content Advisory: This production contains strong adult language, partial nudity, and graphic depictions of violence and torture. The production is not suitable for children under 13 years of age.

1984 is a bold theatrical production as imagined by the Garden Theatre production team and actors. It was thrilling to see a performance that was not inhibited to show on stage the edgy moments of the play’s adaptation. The actors and action were strong, especially Brian Zealand who gave a spectacular and memorable performance as Winston Smith.” – Garden Theatre Guest

“The actors were incredible! The show was intense. We loved every minute of the performance.” – Garden Theatre Guest

“The Garden Theater again does not disappoint when it comes to professional productions. 1984 is no exception. The staging is stunning as the story is told. The quality of the acting is extraordinary. The plot of 1984 is dark and disturbing. Bringing this story to the live stage must have been a herculean project. This casts performance is stellar!” – Garden Theatre Guest

“Directed by Bobbie Bell, the Garden’s 1984 isn’t just an intellectual exercise or a lecture about political awareness. It’s a hauntingly visceral look at the cost of checking out of what matters in society — guarding our precious liberty.” – Matt Palm, Orlando Sentinel
